In Young Judaea and on Year Course, we talk often about Klal Yisrael (Jewish peoplehood). In Hebrew, it is said that “all Jews are responsible for one another”, kol Yisrael arevim zeh la zeh. There is no better way to appreciate and understand the concept of Jewish peoplehood than to actually meet fellow Jews from around the world; thanks to Garin Atid, the … <a

It’s hard to believe but Young Judaea Year Course 2010-2011 is over. Last night, hundreds of chanichim stood together in an event hall in the city of Lod, singing “Hatikva” together, officially bringing the most mind-blowing year of their lives to a close. Over the last nine months, we have tried to convey a variety of the powerful, emotional, incredible, and unique experiences … <a

Hello from Jerusalem! Well, it’s officially real: I am back in Israel, unpacked and living in my new apartment on Derech Hevron. We’re about a 15 minute bus ride from the center of Jerusalem (Ben Yehuda Street and King … <a

We love learning Hebrew on Year Course! While our chanichim physically sit in classrooms, this is not your typical university lecture. Our Ulpan teachers plan dynamic lessons to take advantage of the fact that we’re living in Israel. In order to best learn this country’s native language, our classes might watch Israeli TV shows, read newspaper articles, listen to music, or even go … <a

After more than week removed from winter break, it’s back to normal life in Arad which includes some interesting volunteer options.
Four of our chanichim are working at the Abir horse farm. Here, our volunteers care for the animals: changing their water; feeding the turkeys, peacocks, and chickens; learning how to saddle and ride the horses; and of course getting … <a

We have shared many stories thus far this year about Year Coursers helping out those around them, from raising money and clothes for victims of the Carmel fire, to aiding both children and the elderly during daily volunteering. Here’s something which came across our desk that we were happy to see: future Year Coursers helping the needy in New Orleans. Only five years … <a
