Medical
The Year Course Medical Track is an excellent way to explore the fascinating field of medicine without the pressure of a traditional medical school. Participants receive special training and learn what it takes to be a doctor, having their abilities tested every day in real life situations. These skills become the tools necessary to help participants excel in this challenging field.
Working side-by-side with Magen David Adom, Israel’s life saving organization specializing in emergency treatment, Medical Track participants experience the work of a paramedic and handle real emergencies; they learn about the role of Israel as a global leader in medical practice, research, and technology; and they participate in behind-the-scenes visits to Hadassah Medical Center, one of Israel’s leading medical facilities.
What kind of experience is needed?
No prior experience is required in order to participate in the Medical Track. This program is most appropriate for participants interested in the field of medicine who may be pursuing a medical career in the future. Please note: A basic level of conversational Hebrew is needed in order to participate in this program. Each participant must pass a standard Hebrew test prior to the start of the program.
Medical Track Training:
Medical Track participants have the opportunity to hone their skills as they volunteer in the Wolfson medical center (which houses one of Israel’s leading children’s departments), the Abu Kbir morgue or a veterinarian clinic, just to name a few. For the first few weeks of the Magen David Adom program, participants go through an intensive medic’s training course. Upon successful completion of the course, participants:
- Receive MADA certification which is recognized in many places all over the world
- Develop the skills needed to perform special procedures like inserting an IV and operating life saving equipment
- Learn critical medical Hebrew
Volunteer for 8-hour shifts, going on ambulances as part of the medical team responding calls
Medical Track Academics:
As with Year Course Classic, all Medical Track participants take two (or three) classes each trimester. Hebrew ulpan is mandatory during each trimester and Medical Track participants take a mandatory course in Jewish Medical Ethics. On top of regular courses, there are informal education opportunities for the Medical Track participants in weekly group meetings and tours to special places:
- A non-credit psychology course that will cover a broad range of subjects that impact patients, i.e.: dealing with stressful environments, death and the mental health components of medicine
- Tour places like Hadassah Optimal Center; observe a laser eye surgery and hear about other plastic surgery procedures, or Hadassah college to take part in experiments at the laboratories
- Hear remarkable lectures, like the story of Dr. Alecsei Kalganov who received the highest award from the Chief of Staff for his outstanding bravery during the second Lebanon war
- Visit biotech industry laboratories in the most innovating companies of Israel
- Go to the Tel Aviv Sourasky medical center to see how the ER is run
Note: Itineraries and activities of Specialty Tracks are subject to change or cancellation in Young Judaea’s sole and absolute discretion.
