Politics and Journalism
Participants in the Politics & Journalism Track explore the unique intersection between the political world and broadcast and written media in one of the world’s most exciting and interesting arenas – Israel!
What kind of experience is needed?
No specific or prior experience is needed for the Politics & Journalism Track. This program is appropriate for students who are interested in public leadership, political science, public administration, the Middle East, and/or conflict resolution, journalism, or communication studies.
Politics & Journalism Track Training:
In addition creating content on social media sites, researching current events and doing real analysis for lobbying groups, Politics & Journalism Track participants will take a workshop class under the guidance of professional teachers, in addition to the following:
- Visit newspaper’s editing and publications centers, attend TV productions, and shadow reporters in the field.
- Visit the Knesset and meet with both domestic and international politicians and professionals.
- Gain debate skills: learn public speaking, presentation, persuasion skills, and how to handle opposition.
Politics & Journalism Track Academics:
As with Year Course Classic, all Politics & Journalism Track participants take two (or three) classes each trimester. Hebrew classes are mandatory during each trimester and Politics & Journalism Track participants also take Israel Advocacy: Contemporary issues in the Development of Zionism and Zionist History. There are also informal education opportunities for track participants via tours and weekly group meetings including:
- Attend seminars on international relations with the prestigious State Department cadet course
- Study journalism, photography, and fine writing
- Meet with Israeli journalists and writers who specialize in the political arena
